         “Recycle for Sight” Fundraising Program   

    Recycle to lend a hand

    Over the last several years, you have thrown away many inkjet or laser printer cartridges at work or at home. You may also be saying what on earth are my going to do with my old cell phone. Now, we can help you dispose of those items and do a world of good at the same time.

    A unique partnership between the Danbury Lions Club and a major print technology company, allows you to:

    ·    Help fund Lion programs and projects for the visually impaired

    ·    Protect the environment

    ·    Receive a tax deduction for your donations

     Recycle for  and Lions projects and programs.

    Through this partnership, collection bins will be placed in area businesses.  Our manufacturing partner will purchase the empty cartridges and old cell phone you donate. The proceeds will go to the Danbury  Lions Club.

    As we assist the visually impaired and our mission of humanitarian needs, you will help protect the environment.  Join others who are recycling to protect the precious resources of Earth.

    It’s easy to help.

    ·    Begin collecting cell phones, empty inkjet and laser toner cartridges.           

    ·    Place the cell phones and cartridges in the available Lions collection boxes.

      The Connecticut Multiple District is offering relief to families of Florida.    The Florida Multiple District has set up a Florida Lions Disaster Relief Fund.   CT M District is asking each Lions to contribute $2.00 .    We will be collecting contributions at the lunches.
       
    Dec 8th The Charity/CRIS Breakfast will be December 8th.   Please mark  your calendars and contact Tracy Young or Josh Reilly if you wish to sponsor a table.

     Monday Evening 5-6:30.     Danbury Lions Wine Tasting at the Holiday Inn.     Tickets are $10. with a $20 dinner to follow if you wish to stay.    There is a request for raffle items for this event.  Wine theme items such as bar stuff, stemware, bottles of wine, and cash are much appreciated.     Please see Helene Thompson or Fran Evans for more information.

    A blood drive in honor of past Lion Don Sniffin is taking place next
    Wednesday, July 28 from 1-5:45pm at the Portuguese Cultural Center on

    The Steak Roast has been rescheduled to August 5th.  It will take
    place at Bennets Park in Bethel.

    with Life Memberships.      Also, new members Deana D'Orio, Gene Rosen,
    and Mayor Mark Boughton are welcomed!

    costs approx $45.   You can make an individual sponsorship or a
    continual one.     Your company or name will be recognized in the issue
    that you sponsor.   Please contact Frank Molinaro if you are interested.

1.  Raffle - The report is that we have almost paid for the prizes and hope to raise lots of $$$.   Please sell your tickets and bring them in to Lyn Meyers.

 

2.  Bell ringing - Helene needs more volunteers for bell ringing.  If you can volunteer or would like to add another day, please call her at  203 775-3291.  Most of the times left are afternoon times.

 

3.    Thanksgiving week there will be no lunch at the Holiday Inn.   Instead we will meet on Wednesday the 24th at noon at the Ethan Allen Inn .   We will join the Rotary club.   Bring your raffle tickets!!!

 

4.   A new sign should be  on Federal Road .      It will be in front of Tony Rizzo's shop.     Thanks to the town garage of Danbury and Hugh Morgan for making this possible after about 6 years of no sign.

 

5.  The Peter Winter Memorial Breakfast for Lions Charities and CRIS will be held on December 8th. Wednesday at the Amber Room 7:30 am.     Josh Reilly and Tracy  Young are looking for people to host tables.   So far we have 12 and need to have 36 hosted.   Please call Josh or email him if you can host a table.     Josh 203 796-5825.       woodman1975@hotmail.com

 

6.   Borders Gift Wrapping Day is Sunday December 19th from 9:30 to 10pm .    All the tips go to Lions Charities.    If you are a dandy wrapper or just enjoy hanging out and sipping coffee you too can join in the Holiday Cheer AND raise money for our Charities.

 

7. Decmeber 9th is the Low Vision Luncheon with us at the Holiday Inn.   Some Holiday entertainment is being planned!

 

8.  We would like to welcome out two newest Board Members to the Board.   Josh Reilly is replacing Ann Klebecha as Membership chairman and Frank Molinaro is replacing Steve Dumser on the Board.     Congratulations and Welcome to our Board!

 

9. Tuesday November 23rd will be the first of many Golf Committee meetings.   Many changes are being looked into and your opinion is needed.    If you can give some time on Tuesdays at 5:30 , like golf, and are willing to give us your opinion, please contact Joan Beliezna, Chairman of the committee.

CLERF is having a Kick off Dinner on Friday Nov, 19th in Derby .   The cost is 25 pp.  If you are interested in attending please let me know and I will get a flyer to you.    This Event Honors all Knights of the Blind.   

 

Kurt Miller is spearheading an Operation Elf Program for CT troops and their families.   He will be collecting, unwrapped gifts, money, gift certificates to grocery stores and phone cards.    Please look for a follow up email with more information. 

 

Cathy Wilson would like to thank the Lions Club for presenting Art Wilson with a Life Membership.     She and Tom really appreciate all that members have done for Art.    Art is suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and is presently staying at the Pope John Paul Home

 

We also recently presented Jack Murphy with a Life Membership.   
 
District 23 A is sponsoring two sessions for Club Leadership and New Member Orientation.   These will include groupings for both officers and new members.   Consider attending one of these informative sessions.

 
Session One Saturday, Jan 29th, 9-11:30 am at Rapp's Paradise Inn in Ansonia.
Session Two Monday, Jan 31st, 7-9:30 pm at Adam's Rib Restaurant in Norwalk.

  23 A Lions South Asia Relief Effort.     Our district is raising donations to  present to International First VP Jimmy Ross at the Midwinter Conference Feb 5th.     We will be collecting donations at the meeting for this cause.   If you wish to make out a check, please make it out to 23 A Lions South Asia Relief Effort and we will collect them at lunch.   
  Lions in our thoughts        Bud Hawley recently underwent back surgery and is recovering.    He is hoping to have less and less pain as time passes but progress is slow.   Brij Lal is undergoing treatments for his chronic illness and is unable to attend lunches for the time being.    Both of these Lions are in our thoughts and prayers for speedy recoveries.      Please feel free to let them know they are on our minds.
 
Midwinter Conference is Feb 4-6th in Farmington, CT.   It is open to all Lions.   Many of the Board members and officers will be attending this event.    It is a great way to meet other Lions and especially our International First VP Jimmy Ross.    You can attend  for the day events or stay overnight.    If you would like more info on the seminars and events please see me at the Thursday lunch or email me.

1:15 A change of pace from our usual type of presentation! Today, Michael ( Tweezer ) Seri will be our guest speaker. Known far and wide  and for decades as the premier master of ceremonies at local and state events, Michael will reminisce, reflect and comment on past, present and even future goings on about town, the political atmosphere in and about our communities and anything else which happens to cross his mind on that day. And who is better qualified? Twenty four years as Town Clerk for the City of Danbury, Selectman, City Auditor, State Representative, Commissioner of Special Revenue for the State of Conn., and more and more and more.

          Michael is a long -time member of our Danbury Lions Club.

          Bring a friend and enjoy a fun filled hour.

2:15 Refreshments and whatever.

3:00 Adjourn with reminders on up-coming events such as the picnic sponsored by the local chapter of the National Federation of the Blind.
